Architecture as art.

The Apartments is the bold centrepiece of the NewActon precinct; a sensuous glass, steel and concrete curvilinear tower that reaches 18 storeys into the Canberra skyline.

Based on a three level podium comprising ground floor residences and two storey townhouse style apartments, the building boasts superb resident-only amenities, including a fully equipped gymnasium, theatrette, 600 square metre rooftop garden and secure basement car parking accessed via Marcus Clarke Street.

Access to The Apartments' spectacular entry lobby is via a pedestrianised internal street. Comprising a series of gently stepping paved and grassed terraces, and richly infused with art, it provides a seamless link between The Apartments, the landscaped courts of the adjacent NewActon Pavilion, and the rest of the precinct.

Beauty is in the detail.

Like the NewActon Pavilion and NewActon East buildings, The Apartments transcends the everyday through its quality of thought, exacting craftsmanship, distinctive materiality and ever-present integration of contemporary art.

Already a large number of art pieces have been commissioned. Among them, site-specific works by painter Dan Maginnity and internationally acclaimed sculptors Warren Langley and Arthur Wicks, in contemporary media such as optic fibre, LED projections, and waxed rusted mild and stainless steel.

Complementing these will be creations by renowned Australian sculptors Anne Ferguson and Robin Blau, as well as work in timber by designer/makers Kevin Perkins, Gordon Smith and Derek Wiffen.

Some will feature in the buildings' magnificent double height entry lobby, along with its stone flooring, folded timber cladding panels and unique, purpose-designed lighting fixtures.

Others will find their home in the exclusive resident gardens atop the podium level, where they will combine with dramatic landscaping to create a variety of communal and contemplative spaces offering spectacular views.

Even the act of walking will become an art form, with a motion-sensing interactive sculptural work incorporated into NewActon's Marcus Clarke Street frontage.

Recognition well earned.
